Columbia Square – CBS Hollywood

LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP

On May 22, 2026, the CBS News Radio Network signs off. Thus ending a 99-year information and entertainment history of excellence, artistry and public service. From Elmer Davis and Robert Trout to Douglas Edwards and Walter Cronkite, the CBS brand led by Bill Paley and Ed Murrow set an unparalleled standard of professionalism. In news reporting and commentary – CBS was distinctly objective while credibly honest – traits sorely lacking on all sides today. Likewise, CBS entertainment was top-notch from drama to comedy and classical to jazz music. The incredible CBS contribution to the war effort of 1941-1945 is precisely documented in my book America Ascendant. Moreover, part of this proud legacy is the network series, Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade (1939-1942), as well as the Army Air Forces’ production “I Sustain the Wings” (1943). You can hear CBS Radio information and entertainment regularly on my Star-Spangled Radio Hour podcast.
